Dam and Cambridge Diversion Dam in Nebraska; Boysen Dam, Power Plant
and Railroad Relocation in Wyoming; and Heart Butte Dam in North
Dakota.

~

Although negotiations on several repayment contracts were carried
on throughout the year, no new contracts were actually signed and ap-
proved by all parties. All new land on the Riverton and Shoshone
Projects ,which had been filed on the year before or during the fiscal
year 1948, was either farmed or broken up ready for cultivation by the
new Veteran settlers.

.

The other participating agencies of the Interior Department'man-
aged to successfully revise their programs to meet the requirements of
the new dams to be initiated and perform all of the functions required
of the~ so that no delay was caused by their activities.

Perhaps the outstanding accomplishment of the Missouri Basin
Inter-Agoncy Committee during the year was a compilation of the Six-
Year ProGram of resource developruent which comprised programs of all
Federal and state agencies operating in the Basin. It is planned to
revise this program each year to conform to the appropriations made
annually by Congress.

The Interior Hissouri Basin Field Committee 'held eleven meetings
during the past year regarding the programs of the Interior agencies,
They recommended revisions and changes in allotments and apparently
brought about a better understanding and coordination than has here-
tofore been achieved between Interior agencies working on a single
program.

..

A perusal of the Six-Year Program discloses that plans of the
various state and Federal agencies are probably much more ambitious
than can be realized, unless the annual appropriations bJ, Congress
and the various states are more than doubie that approved for fiscal
year 1949. In view of world and national economic and political con-
ditions, the practicability of such a Six-Year Program may be
questioned by many.

The annual report of the Missouri Basin Field Committee for fis-
cal year 1948 is quite voluminous and covers a large amount of detail.
It is believed any student of the Missouri Basin Development Plan can,
with sufficient study of this report, determine the progress that is,
be ing made.

1'.

"

2
