Horsetooth Reservoir

Description: Horsetooth Reservoir will be about six and one-
half miles long and about one-fourth to three-fourths of a mile wide.
The reservoir will be formed by constructing the Horsctooth Dam and
Sntanka Dike at the north end of the basin and by constructing the
Soldier Canyon, Dixon Canyon, and Spring Canyon Dams across the
three channels eroded through the east riIll of the basin. Physical

PrQf1:ram FY48: Work will be continued on the four dams forming
the reservoir. The contractor for the Horsetooth and Soldier Canyon
Dams has sched11lod these dams to be 71 percent complete by the end
. of the fiscal year. Tpe contractor for Dixon Canyon and Spring
Canyon Dams has estimated these dams to be 85 percent complete by the
end of the fiscal year.

Accomplishments FY48: Horsetooth Dam and Satanka Dike were 40
percent complete with 54 percent of time elapsed. Excavation was
completed and 94,000 cubic yards of embankment and ll,OOO cubic yards
of concrete were placed. .

Soldier Canyon Dam was 60.4 percent complete with 67 percent of
time elapsed. Excavation was completed and 1,700,000 cubic yards of
embankment wero placed, bringing the height of the dam to 98 feet.

Dixon Canyon Dam was 64.4 percent complete with 66.5 percent
of time elapsed. Excavation was completed and 1,700,000 cubic yards
of embankment were placed, bringing the height of the dam to 129
feet.

Spring Canyon Dam was 74.7 percent complete with 66.5 percent
of time elapsed. Excavation was completed and l,600,OOO cubic yards
of embankment were placed, bringing the height of the dam to 148
feet.
