<br />FRENCHMAN-CAMBRIDGE UNIT (14) <br /> <br />Description: The Frenchman-Cambridge Unit is located along the <br />Ropublican River and tributaries in southern Nebraska. The unit will <br />include three storage reservoirs and four diversion dams and will <br />irrigate 53,140 acres of land, of which l7,620 acres will be supple- <br />mental irrigation. <br /> <br />Enders Dam on Frenchman Creek will be 100 feet high and have a <br />crest length of 2,570 feet. It will have a total storage capacity of <br />74,000 acre-feet. l1edicine Creek Reservoir on l-1edicine Creek will be <br />102 feet high with a crost length of 4,000 feet, and will have a total <br />storage capacity of 93,000 acre-feet. Culbertson Dam will be an earth- <br />fill structure on the Ropublican River and will be 95 feet high and <br />7,800 feet long. Total reservoir capacity will be 172,000 acre-feet. <br /> <br />One diversion dam will be constructed on Frenchman Creek near <br />Culbertson and three on the Republican River near Culbertson, Cam- <br />bridge, and Indianola. <br /> <br />Program FY48 ($5,400.000): Construction will be continued on <br />Enders Dam with a contractor's schedule calling for 60 percent comple- <br />tion by the end of the fiscal year. Construction is to be initiated <br />on Medicine Creek Dam and the appropriation for Culbertson Dam will <br />be usod for drilling, surveys of the damsite, and relocation of the <br />CB&Q Railroad. <br /> <br />., <br /> <br />.. <br /> <br />Accomplishments FY48: Enders Dam advanced to 40.5 percent com- <br />pletion with 45 porcant of time elapsed. Excavation for dam foundation <br />and open-cut for the outlet works were virtually complete (99 percent). <br />Placing of embankment was started in October 1947 and placing of con- <br />crete has been started in the outlet works, gate chamber, and valve <br />p.ouse. Frenchmnn Creek was diverted through the outlet works on June <br />6, 1948. <br /> <br />Notice to proceed was acknowledged for construction of Medicine <br />Creek Dam on March 3, 1948. At the end of the fiscal year this dam <br />was 9 percent complete with 10 percent of time elapsed. Foundation <br />area stripping was practically complete and a start was made on the <br />contractor's plant. <br /> <br />Prespecification work on Culbertson Dam was nearly complete and <br />preliminary designs were in progress. Cambridge Diversion Dam was <br />practically completed (99 percent) during the fiscal year, with only <br />47 percent of time elapsed. Other construction in progress included <br />a contract for concrete siphon for the Cambridge Canal, rehabilitation <br />of Meeker Canal and construction of Cambridge Canal.
