It \1i11 be 15 years be- <br />fore adequate maps can be produced for the entire Basin at the rate <br />of expenditure now being followedo <br /> <br />The Fish and V1ildlife Service has practially completed their pre- <br />liminary investiGations of all of the proposed reservoir sites which <br />may possibly be under construction during the nsxt few years and are <br />nOH able to devote a Great deal of their attention to the development <br />of a basin-wide pro~rem for fish and wildlife covering the entire area. <br />Many of their activities are also beinG devoted to the perfecting of <br />development plans at certain reservoirs in anticipation of early con- <br />structiono <br /> <br />Likewise the National Park Service has now caught up \lith their <br />preliminary investiGation of recreational features at numerous reser- <br />voirs and are devoting a large part of their activity to working out <br />their detaileQ recreational plans for certain reservoirs and an over- <br />all basin-wide recreational program. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />The Bureau of clines, after having caught up with investieations <br />of numerous metallic and nonmetallic possibilities in the Basin are <br />reorienting their basin plans toward greater enphasis on statistical <br />and economic data concerning the mineral industrJ. and better use of <br />the Basin's enormous coal 0epositso <br /> <br />The Bureau of Land l1anagement has made rapid strides in the de- <br />termination of the proper utilization of the 16 million acres of pub- <br />lic domain remaining in the Basin. Ue can now look fonrard to comple- <br />tion of that phase of their \lork within a very few years. <br /> <br />Emphasis is now beginnine to be placed upon measures for improv- <br />ing the range capacities of the public domain and in determinations <br />of when and how tc dispose of isolated tracts of public domain land. <br /> <br />Reservoir riGhts-of-way and the farm layouts 00 numerous irri- <br />gation systems have caused the Cadastral Survey Branch of the Bureau <br />of Land l1anueement to speed up their activities in the restoration <br />and relocation of land lines in the Basin. Great proeress has been <br />made within the last twc years and another two years should see that <br />facet of the entire development program well in line. <br /> <br />A considerable portion of the funds made available to the National <br />Park Service has, by cooperative agreement, been transferred to the <br />Smithsonian Institution \lhich has accomplished a great deal toward <br />preserving for historical records the archeological and paleontological <br />features which have been disclosed within areas soon to b9 inundated <br />by reservoir waters. <br /> <br />, <br /> <br />:3 <br />
