<br />NARROHS UNIT <br /> <br />Description: Narrows Unit is on the South Platte River in north- <br />eastern Colorado. Narrows Dam, to be located northwest of Fort liorgan, <br />Colorado, will be an earthfill structure approximately 110 feet high, <br />with a crest length of 14,000 feet. The reservoir will have a capacity <br />of 660,000 acre-feet. Additional features involved are relocation of <br />about 25 miles of Union Pacific Railroad, diversion of Bijou Creek and <br />relocation of highways. <br /> <br />Narrows Reservoir will conserve return flow from the Colorado-Big <br />Thompson Project and the proposed Blue River-South Platte Project, and <br />provide supplemental irrigation for 200,000 acres and full irrigation <br />for 100,000 acrcs. <br /> <br />The entire unit will cost an estimated ':)36,500,000, of which <br />Narrows Dam will require $16,087,000. <br /> <br />Program FY49 <br />Funds available, $1,691,508. <br /> <br />The temporary camp was to be <br />completed and construction was <br />scheduled to start on the dam, <br />railroad and highway reloca- <br />tions. <br /> <br />Accor.1plishments FY49 <br />Costs to June 30, ~419,353. <br /> <br />The camp was completed. No con- <br />struction has been started on the <br />dam or relocation work and designs <br />have been delayed pending completion <br />of studies on the economic height. <br /> <br />BUFFALO RAPIDS PROJECT <br /> <br />Description: This project, of approximately 13,600 acres, includes <br />the Shirley, Terry, and Fallon Units, located on the Yellowstone River <br />in the vicinity of Terry, 'I-lontana. <br /> <br />The Shirley and Terry Units were constructed prior to fiscal year <br />1949 and the puTJping plant building and canals for the Fallon Unit were <br />completed during fiscal year 1948. <br /> <br />The entire project, comprising the three units, is estimated to <br />cost $1,421,000. <br /> <br />Program FY49 <br /> <br />Funds available, (;;62,351. <br /> <br />The pumping plant and distribu- <br />tion system for the Fallon Unit <br />were scheduled for completion. <br /> <br />Aecomplishments FY49 <br />Costs to June 30, ~40,860. <br /> <br />The pumping plant was essentially <br />completed, although lack of some <br />electrical equipment has prevented <br />operation this year. <br /> <br />40 <br />
