<br />oooaqs <br /> <br />COLORADO-BIG THOMPSON PROJECT <br /> <br />Marys Lake and Estes PO~ler Plants, Olympus Dam, Horsetooth <br />Feeder Canal and Rslated Transmission Lines <br /> <br />Description: Marys Lake Power Plant (8,100 kw) will be located <br />on the southwst side of Marys Lake (700 acre.feet) and will be a <br />reinforced concrete structure approximately 62 fect wide and 64 feet <br />long. Estes Power Plant (48,000 kw) will be located on the right <br />bank of the Big Thompson River and will be reinforced concrete struc- <br />ture approximately 98 feet wide and 145 feet long. <br /> <br />Olympus Dam ,all consist of a concrete gravity-type spillw~ sec- <br />tion at the right abutment and an earth embankment, extending from <br />the concrete section across the river channel to the left abutment, <br />with a total crest length of approximately 1,880 feet and a maximum <br />height above the river bed of about 56 feet. Horsetooth Feeder Canal <br />will be 13 miles long and contain four tunnels. <br /> <br />The following are the estimated costs of the principal features <br />of this portion of the project: Harys Lake and Estes Power Plants, <br />and appurtenant structures ~14,340,OOO, and Horsetooth Feeder Canal <br />and tunnels $6,593,000. <br /> <br />A graphic representation of the work performed in this area <br />during the year is shown on the opposite page. The following is a <br />brief comparison of the fiscal year 1949 progr8lll vs. accomplishments. <br /> <br />Prol!I'8IIl FY49 <br /> <br />Construction was scheduled for <br />completion on the four tunnels <br />of Horsetooth Feeder Canal. <br />New construction was scheduled <br />to start on the following trans- <br />mission lines: Flatiron to <br />Greeley, Estes to Marys Lake <br />and Estes to Granby. Construc- <br />tion ~as to continue on Marys <br />Lake & Estes Park Plants and <br />Olympus D8IIl. <br /> <br />Accomplishments FY49 <br /> <br />The contract for the construc- <br />tion of the four tunnels of <br />Horsetooth Feeder Canal was <br />completed and a new contract <br />was awarded on M~ 20, 1949 <br />for the canal construction be- <br />tween the tunnels. Contracts <br />were awarded for the Flatiron <br />to Greeley Transmission Line <br />and an award was authorized for <br />the construction of a cable <br />through the Alva B. Adams Irri- <br />gation Tunnel, and also for <br />the Estes to Marys ,Lake Linp.B. <br />Construction sta~us on all fea- <br />tures is shown on opposite page. <br /> <br />37 <br />
