<br />OOQQ'~5 <br /> <br />SHOSHONE PROJECT <br /> <br />Description: Shoshone Project, one of the oldest Reclamation <br />projects, construction having been initiated in 1904, is located in <br />north>lestern Uyoming. It comprises four divisions: Garland, Fr8lUlie, <br />\iill>lood, and Heart Mountain, >lith a total irrigable area of approxi- <br />mately 115,000 acres. Except for minor work on Wilhrood, all divisions <br />of the project have beon completed. <br /> <br />Water supply is obtained from the Shoshone River and storage is <br />provided by the Buffalo Bill Reservoir, the capacity of uhich is 456,000 <br />acre-feet. <br /> <br />The po,ler development at Buffalo Bill Dam utilizes the available <br />maximum head of 220 feet >lith an existing output of 5,600 kilo>latts, <br />and an additional 5,000 kilowatts which have been provided by the Heart <br />Mountain Power Plant. The immediate project area, >lhich includes sev- <br />eral towns, is servcd by the Shoshone-Cody-Deaver 33-kilovolt transmis- <br />sion line, and a 69-kilovolt line interconnects the Shoshone Power <br />Plant >lith the Bureau I s interconnected power system to the south. <br /> <br />The entire cost of Shoshone Project (including all divisions) <br />is estilnated at )16,792,505. As of June )0, 1949 ',)1),51;2,466 has <br />been spent. Investigations arc continuing on the Chapman Bench, Pole- <br />cat Bench, and Shoshone Extension for possible develo~ent at a later <br />date. <br /> <br />The follouin3 is a brief comparison of the fiscal year 1949 pro- <br />gram vs. accomplishments. A graphic representation of work performed <br />during fiscal year 1949 is shown on the opposite page. <br /> <br />Program FY49 <br />Funds available - ~1,720,818. <br /> <br />The enlarging of Heart Mountain <br />Canal and Alkali Drain \,'ere sched- <br />uled for completion as ",ell as <br />the Heart Mountain Po\ror Plant <br />and Heart Mountain-Garland Trans- <br />mission Line. Work on concrete <br />chute for Hillwood Canal uas to <br />be completed and a start made <br />on the C.J. Coulee Siphon. <br /> <br />Accomplishments FY49 <br /> <br />Costs to June 30, 1949 $1,030,065. <br /> <br />All presently contemplated con- <br />struction work has been completed, <br />including Heart Mountain Canal <br />and Ralston Lateral System, Heart <br />Mountain Power Plant, Heart 110un- <br />tain-Garland Transmission Line, <br />and the concrete chute for Will- <br />wood Canal. There were 104 farm <br />units comprising 12,073 acres <br />opened up for settlement during <br />the year. <br /> <br />31 <br />
