RIVERTON PROJECT Description: Riverton Project is located in Fremont County, Wyoming, on the ceded portion of the Wind River Indian Reservation and west of the Big Horn River. The project receives its water supply from Wind River and tributaries with the principal storage at Bull Lake Reservoir and supplementary storage at Pilot Butte Reservoir. Water from the natural flow in Wind River, supplemented by storage water from Bull Lake Reservoir, with 152,000 acre-feet capacity, lo- cated on Bull Lake Creek, a tributary of Wind River, is carried in the Wyoming Canal from Wind River Diversion Dam, five miles below Bull Lake D~. Here water is diverted through a drop to Pilot Butte POlrer Plant, capacity 1,600 kilowatts, thence into Pilot Butte Reser- voir, capacity 30,000 acre-feet. Pilot Canal takes water from this reservoir to serve a part of the irrigable land and \~yoming Canal extends easterly, from the point of diversion to the power plant to serve the remainder of the project. At the start of the fiscal year contracts were in force, as fol- 10.-1s: Lost Wells Lateral System (98 percent complete) and Wyoming Canal (58 percent); Wyoming Canal and Drains (3 percent); North and Pavillion Lateral System (17 percent). The total cost of Riverton Project is estimated to be $201.538,000. The total cost to June 30, 1949 was $13,789,258. Of the $3,080,591 expended during fiscal year 1949 $1,833,621 or 60 percent was in the form of contract earnings. The following is a brief comparison of the fiscal year 1949 pro- gram vs. accomplishments. A graphic representation of the status of work and work performed during the past year is shown on the opposite page. .. Wyoming Canal and Laterals (Sta. 883 to tunnel) and Gov- ernment camp were to be com- pleted. Construction has to start on the Wyoming Canal (1st Divn.), the Wyoming Tun- nel and the canals and lat- erals from Station 2560. Contracts for the Hyoming Canal (Sta. 883 to tunnel) and Drains were completed. Construction of the l1/yoming Canal and Muddy Ridge Canal, including the tun- nel, were 49 percent complete on June 30. There were 50 farm units comprising 5,912 acres opened up during the year. . I 28
