<br />000iB1 <br /> <br />ANGOSTURA UNIT <br /> <br />Description: Angostura Dam is located on the Cheyenne River, <br />seven miles southeast of Hot Springs, South Dakota. It will be a <br />concrete structure about 160 feet high M,d 960 feet long, with an <br />earth dike 9/1) feet long on the right abutment. With a total stora38 <br />capacity of 220,000 acre-feet; 92,000 acre-feet will be utilized for <br />irrigation of 12,3/1) acres of land; 60,000 acre-feet will provide <br />flood control and 68,000 acre-feet of dead storage will allow for <br />silt detention and provide a sufficient altitude for diversion for <br />irrigation of lands below the dam. <br /> <br />The entire Angostura Unit is estimated to cost ~14,198,000. The <br />contract for construction of Angostura Dam was awarded to the Utah <br />Construction Company on June 28, 1946 for (~4,237,476. As of June 30, <br />1949 a total of $8,430,105 had been spent on Angostura Unit. <br /> <br />The dam is scheduled for completion in November 1949. Plans for <br />canal and lateral construction are well advanced and it is planned to <br />begin contruction on this feature during the latter part of fiscal <br />year 1950 or early in fiscal year 1951. <br /> <br />A total of 20,480 acres was covered by detailed land classifica- <br />tion bringing the total to 28,680. Farm budgets, payI1lent capacity <br />and water charGe studies were completed in the field. <br /> <br />The following is a brief comparison of the fiscal year 1949 pro- <br />gram with accomplishments. A graphic representation of the work per- <br />formed during the year is sho..m on the opposite page. <br /> <br />Program FY49 <br />Funds available - $3,975,060. <br /> <br />Accomplishments FY49 <br />Costs to June )0, 1949 - $4,025,244. <br /> <br />Construction of AnGostura Dam <br />was to be 88 percent complete <br />at the end of the fiscal year <br />according to the contractor's <br />,schedule. <br /> <br />Construction of the dam lias 86 <br />percent complete on June )0, <br />1949 with 87 percent of the <br />contract time elapsed. <br /> <br />Clearing of the reservoir was <br />to be essentially completed. <br /> <br />Concrete work is now 92 percent <br />complete and embankment is 78 <br />percent complete. <br /> <br />23 <br />
