<br />00000J <br /> <br />FRENCHMAN-CAMBRIDGE UNIT <br /> <br />~escription: The Frenchman-Cambridge Unit is located along the <br />Republican River in southern Nebraska. The proposed works Idll ex- <br />tend from Enders, Nebraska, eastward along Frenchman Creek and the <br />main Republican River to Orleans, Nebraska. The Unit as now planned <br />will include 57,720 acres of land under the following canal systems: <br />Cambridge, 17,300 acres; Red "allow, 1l,J,l0 acres; l4eeker_Driftwcod, <br />16,440 acres; Frenchman, 12,570 acres. <br /> <br />Three storage reservoirs will be constructedo Enders Dam, now <br />under construction on the Frenchman Creek near Enders, Nebraska, will <br />have storage capacity of 74,000 acre-feet, Medicine Creek Dam, now <br />being constructed on Medicine Creek, eight miles northwest of Cambridge, <br />Nebraska, will have a storage capacity of 93,000 acre-feet; Trenton <br />(Culbertson) Dam on which construction will be started early in fiscal <br />year 1950, will be located on the Republican River two miles west of <br />Trenton, Nebraskao The reservoir will have a storage capacity of <br />172,000 acre-feeto <br /> <br />To serve the area, two new diversion dams are required on the <br />Republican River, and a total of approximately 200 miles of main canals <br />will be buH t. <br /> <br />The entire Frenchman Unit is estimated to cost ':'52,380,0000 Of <br />the $8,201,561 expendec1 during fiscal year 1949, $6,279,449, or 77 <br />percent was in the form of contractor's earnings. <br /> <br />The followinG is a brief comparison of the fiscal year 1949 pro- <br />gram vs. accomplishments 0 A graphic representation of the work per- <br />formed during the year is shown on the opposite pageo <br /> <br />Prol!I'BlU FY49 <br /> <br />.. <br /> <br />Construction of Cambridge <br />Diversion Dam and housing <br />at Trenton was scheduled for <br />completion, According to the <br />latest contractor's program, <br />Enders Dam was to be 86 per- <br />cent complete, Medicine Creek <br />Dam 67 percent completeo Con- <br />struction was scheduled to <br />start on Culbertson Dam and <br />on Cambridge Canalo <br /> <br />Accomplishments FY49 <br /> <br />Cambridge Diversion Dam was com- <br />pletedo Housing at Trenton was <br />completed. Enders Dam was 80 <br />percent complete and Medicine <br />Creek Dam 57 percent on June 30. <br />Although construction had not <br />started on Trenton Dam, bids <br />were opened for the dam foun- <br />dation on June 29.
