g. Similar process was used to determine each pOI'tion of drainage area in
other quadrilaterals. Total summation was made to determine entire
area of drainage area in question.

h. Exception to the above procedure is the Fountain River Basin. The area
of the total basin above Pueblo, Colorado, as well as pertinent subdivi-
sione were determined by the office of the U. S. Forest Service, CSden,
Utah, from a base map, scale one inch equals one mile, constructed from
aerial photographs by the use of pantograph and controlled by USC&GS
triangulation stations and USGS quadrangles.

4. Determination of Drainage Areas. (Fort Sndth, Arkansas to mouth)

a. In connection with preparation of data for liouse DocUlllllnt 308, the
total watershed below Fort Sm1th, Arkansas, was plan:lJDetered and. the
partial areas were plan:lJDetered and adjusted so that a summation of
the partial areas checked the total area. Subsequent to the "308"
report, additional areas were determined as required or areas were
redetermined where better maps were ave.llable by plan:lJDetering the
watershed boundaries.

b . Exceptions to the above procedure are the Petit Jean at Blue Mountain
Dam, Waveland, Dutch Creek, Danville, Centerville, Pontoonand Waltreak,
Galla Creek and the South Fourche La Fll-ve River at Hollis gage and at
the mouth. The drainage areas for these locations were determined by
the procedure described for the White !liver Basin.

5. Tabulated breakdown of areas, as indicated in paragraph 2 above, are given
in follOWing table form, pagee 1 to 65, inclusive.

GENERAL :rnFORMATION AS TO IJIlE DETERMINATION
OF RIVER MILEAGES SJIOWN

!liver mileages were a.etermined from t'l1e latest' available Corps of
Engineers survey maps of the streams, supplemented by surveys for reeer-
voir areas. If' stream or reservoir survey maps were not available, then
mileages were compiled from the latest publiShed maps, such as those
prepared by the U. S. Geological Survey, M1esissippi River COmm1SSiOIl,
National Forest Service, Bureau of Soils, ~,U.S,D.A., etc.

As a matter of specifiC information the source of certain mileages
is as follows.

(1) On the Main stem of the Arkansas !liver old mileages frpm the
"308" rsport were used upstream from the Kansas-Oklahoma State
line. New mileages were used in -the lower reach of the river,
which IDileaaee 'IIere il.e....ermineil. by lllf>aeuring along a line mid.-
way between banks on the 1940-41 Survey Maps of the Arkansas
River report prepared by the Corps of Engineers.
