.

000169

.

4. Transport and Dispersion of Contaminants in a
Shallow Ground Water Aquifer

Salt leaks from disposal ponds at the Rocky Mountain
Arsenal have migrated through the shallow aquifer towards the
South Platte River. Contamination of ground water is a serious
problem that cannot be quickly remedied. The objective of this
research program is the development and verification of a general
numerical technique that can provide quantitative predictions of
movement of contaminants in an aquifer.

5. Hydro1oqy of the Rocky Flats Plant Site Investiqation

The Rocky Flats Plant, which is operated for the Atomic
Energy Commission, is a key producer of plutonium; and, according
to the Atomic Energy Con~ission, it is an essential facility in
the national security program. This investigation is designed
to describe the hydrologic regime of the Rocky Flats area for
various frequencies and detail the rate.and direction of surface
and ground water movement at the plant site.

6. Hydro1oqy of the Mountain Area of Jefferson County
Study

The mountains immediately west of Denver are rapidly
gaining in population. Most of the development is residential and
most residents require an independent water supply and sanitary
facilities. Geologic controls in the area suggest that serious
problems may develop--particular1y water shortages and unsuitable
drinking water resulting from waste disposal. County planners and
developers in the area need geologic and hydrologic information
for planning, and this study will provide much of the information
required. . ,

7. Hydroloqy and Related Recreational Aspects of Streams
in Colorado

Expanded recreational needs must be balanced against
other growing demands for water, such as public and industrial
supplies. In order to make intelligent decisions regarding the
use and management of the water resources for recreation and other
uses, an analysis of the hydrologic and other factors related to
recreational values is essential. This investigation will assemble
and evaluate information essential to these decisions.

15
