The costs are
illustrated for each section of river and for each of the improvements
descri bed in the report. Seepage control costs are broken out
separately and are subject to further study. Total estimated cost of
the improvements is approximately $4.0 million, with the Alternate 'B'
alignment for the south tieback levee. The annualized cost of
const ruct ion is $338,198, based upon a 50-year 1 He and an 8.25%
di scount rate. Recall i ng the annua 1 benefi t estimated earl i er, the
project represents a benefit/cost ratio of approximately 2.9.

The cost estimates represent a best opinion of the anticipated costs
based upon the 1 imited knowledge of the levee system. Further study
and des i gn shoul d follow thi s reconnai ssance study effort. Final
des i gn wi 11 make every effort to achi eve economi es in the use of
materi a 1 s and means of const ruct i on, to try and mi ni mi ze the total
cost of construction and the life cycle costs of the levee system.

-29-
