12F I&E/96--: Public Involvement on Removal and Control of Nonnative Fishes in Colorado
and Gunnison River Floodplain Source Ponds (CDOW, funded under C 18/1 9)

The goal of this activity is to conduct public involvement on activilies pertaining to
nonnative fish control issues in the Colorado and Gunnison rivers. In FY 2002-2003, the
"listening log" will be continued, television spots and news releases will be prepared, and
articles will be prepared for Colorado Outdoors Magazine and the Recovery Program
newsletter. Total out year cost: to be determined.

12G I&E/Ol02: Utah Advanced Project WILD Workshop (UDWR, $2,600 from FY 01)

Utah Division of Wildlife will host an Advanced Project WILD educator workshop
featuring the endangered fish of the Upper Colorado River in June 2002. Training will
include a tour of Flaming Gorge Dam and the Ouray National Fish Hatchery and a float
trip. A major componenl of the workshop will be discussion of how informalion and
skills gained can be shared with the participants' students, Potential educational activities
will be shared and applicable supplemental educational materials such as the "Rivers at
Risk" curriculum, the endangered fish posters and the "Swimming Upstream" video will
be distributed. Those taking the workshop for credit will be asked to follow lhrough with
an education plan for lheir students and summarize their results. Total out year cost: $0

12H I&E/OI04: Interpretive Signs and Exhibits (FWS, $40,000 [including $10,000
FY 0 1 carry-over])

Interpretive signs and exhibits at museums and visitor centers are key tools used to '
educate the general public. Numerous opportunities exist for the Recovery Program to
partner with public and private organizations to develop signs and exhibits to explain lhe '
importance of recovering the endangered fishes. Projects initiated in FY 2001 will
continue in 2002-2003 (Grand Valley: Audubon Society Visitor Center, Legacy
Committee, Riverfront Trail Master Interpretive Plan, Western Colorado Math & Science
Center, CDOW; Yanlpa River Valley: The Carpenter Ranch, the Hayden Kiosk Group,
CDOW; Vernal: Ouray NWRIHatchery). New partnerships will be pursued in Vernal
(Field House Museum), Dinosaur National Monument; Moab; Page/Lake Powell;
Flaming Gorge; Gunnison and Yampa River Basins. Total out year cost: $60,000.

121 I&E/96--: Ruedi Reservoir Agreement (BOR, funded outside the Recovery Program)

The goal of the Ruedi releases is to provide supplemental water to enhance flows in the
IS-mile reach. Public involvement identifies public concerns and values regarding Ruedi
releases and provides a mechanism to incorporate public perspectives and issues into the
process of timing the releases. Interested communities are informed about the value of
the Recovery Program and how Ruedi releases support of efforts to recover the
endangered fish. Public involvement tactics include public meetings and forums, use of
the Recovery Program newsletter to disseminate information on activities, news releases,
and individual mailing on specific proposals. Total out year cost: Not applicable.
