000611

---------- APPENDIX C: FY-2002 - 2003 PROJECT DESCRIPTIONS

v. RESEARCH. MONITORING. AND DATA MANAGEMENT

15. RMD/89--: Larval Fishes Identification (BR, $41,400)

Contract issued to the Larval Fish Laboratory in Fort Collins, Colorado, to identifY larval
fishes collected as part of the Interagency Standardized Monitoring Program and conducl
ongoing curation of small fish from preserved Program collections. Total outyear cost:
-$43,400/year.

16. RMD/85--: Database Management (FWS, $53,000)

Recovering and deli sting the endangered Colorado River fishes will require a thorough
understanding of the interrelationships of the fishes and their environments. Those
relationships can be understood through extensive analyses of data. Data are maintained
in computerized form, to facilitate analyseS, Specific tasks include: maintaining
database; summarizing data; providing annual listing of files; and providing annual
listing of all PIT-tagged fish, Total out year cost: $-55,700/year.

,
"

,I
I:
II

22c, RMD/85--: Standardized Monitoring Program (UDWR, $24,300)

Continued collection of standardized monitoring trend data on young-of-the-year
Colorado pikeminnow in six reaches of the Green and Colorado rivers. Data also may be
used to relate to population estimates of adult Colorado pikeminnow in the middle and
lower Green River. Total out year cost: $27,300.

22f. RMD/OI03: ISMP Assessment of Endangered Fish Production in Relation to Flaming
Gorge Operation (LFL, $87,000)

The goal of this project is to detect timing of reproduction by razorback sucker and
Colorado pikeminnow, and determine patterns of presence oflarvae and their relative
abundance downstream of potential spawning siles in the middle Green River system. A
second goal is to monitor temperature regimes of the Green and Yampa rivers in order to
comply with Flaming Gorge flow recommendations. Total out year cost: $90,000.

22i. RMD/0002: Abundance Estimates for Colorado Pikeminnow in the Middle Green
River/Yampa River System (LFL, $150,000)

This 3-year study is designed to provide abundance and survival estimates for sub-adult
and adult Colorado pikeminnow for each of the White, Yampa, and Green River
populations. An overall estimate also will be calculated. Total out year cost: $0

C-13
