S. Highway 160 and the cost

of the reservoir including the necessary inlet and outlet

canals would exceed that of Long Hollow Reservoir.

The Hay Gulch site is about 300 feet lower than the

long HOllow site and would command 3,000 acres less of the

project area. It would require greater spill~~y cap~city than

Long Hollow Reservoir.

La Plata No. 1 site, which is a bout 5 miles upstream from

the State Line site, has only 40 per cent as much storage

capaci ty for the same height of dam. Elnbankment would be 60

~r;'~)~

percent greater for a capacity of 13,000 acre-feet. Additional

capacity necessary for silting and flood control can be pro-

vided more oheaply at the State Line site.

For the reasons given above, the various project plans

considered only Long HOllow, Red Mesa, and State Line reservoir

sites.

PROJECT PLAN AND E3TIMATE

Eight project plans utilizing various oombinations and

capacities of Long Hollow, Red Mesa, and State Line reservoirs

have been discussed at various times with the state engineers

33
