<br />,_c..,,-,'""""".,...""'_-_-_,.;~:.;-_;...-~:~-..:.<...""'...'__ <br /> <br />,--,"--,;, - <br /> <br />C'I':I <br />C\": <br /> <br />C"": <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />,- <br />","'. .., <br /><;~..~..) <br /> <br />Reservoir Sites <br /> <br />The sites investigated included the Hesperus on the La <br /> <br />Plata River just above Hesperus, Thompson Park on Cherry Creek <br /> <br />about 9 miles west of Hesperus, Gold Bar on Cherry Creek, 2 <br /> <br />miles northwest of Hesperus, Hay Gulch on the stream of that <br /> <br />name about .5 miles west of Fort Lewis, Long Hollow near the <br /> <br />La Plata-Animas divide, 4 miles southeast of Fort Lewis, Red <br /> <br />Mesa on Hay Gulch about 1 mile above its junction with the La <br /> <br />Plata River, La Plata No. 1 ~eservoir site on the La Plata <br /> <br />River 3.5 miles north of the state line, and State Line <br /> <br />Reservoir on the La Plata River at the state line. <br /> <br />The Hesperus reservoir site has the advantage of being <br /> <br />on the main stream above practically all the irrigable area <br /> <br />but its excessive cost caused its rejection. <br /> <br />The Thompson Park site was rejected largely because of <br /> <br />the excessive cost of the long outlet canal required to Red <br /> <br />Mesa and the La Plata River. This high cost, added to the cost <br /> <br />of the inlet canal required from the La Plata above Hesporus <br /> <br />and the cost of the reservoir makes the total for this develop... <br /> <br />ment higher than that for the Long Hollow Reservoir. <br /> <br />32 <br />
