<br />O~1784 <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />Previous Reports <br /> <br /> <br />As far as is known, a project for controlling Purgatoire <br /> <br /> <br />River floods at Trinidad waS first given consideration by the War <br /> <br /> <br />Department in its report on the Arkansas River and tributa.ries <br /> <br /> <br />dated August 24, 1935 (Volume 1, House Document 308). In that <br /> <br /> <br />report, reference is made to the Madrid reservoir site on the <br /> <br /> <br />main stream about' six miles above town as a possibility for pro- <br /> <br /> <br />viding flood control and stream flow regulation for irrigation <br /> <br /> <br />purposes. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />A "Pn~limino.ry Examination Report" was made by the District <br /> <br /> <br />Engineer at Memphis, Tennessee, dated December 20, 1935. The War <br /> <br /> <br />Department is now making a survey examination to be completed in <br /> <br /> <br />1%0. <br /> <br />A report vms made by the Works Progress Administration <br /> <br /> <br />from 1933 to 1935 under the direction of J. H. Griffin, Supervising <br /> <br /> <br />Engineer, Trinidad, Colorado. It is knovm as "Proposed Irrigation <br /> <br /> <br />and Flood Control Dams on the Purgatoire River a.nd its Tributaries." <br /> <br /> <br />The city engineer of Trinidad ha.s recently submitted a <br /> <br /> <br />plan for channel rectification to the Works Progress Administration. <br /> <br /> <br />To date no construction has resulted. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />6 <br /> <br />
