The BDard meeting will begin at <br />10:00 a.m. Dn Wednesday September 12'h with the retreat commencing at nDon with lunch and <br />cDncluding atnDon on Thursday, September 13,2001. At future Board meetings we will discuss the <br />retreat and establish the agenda. <br /> <br />PROTECTION OF EXISTING RIGHTS <br /> <br />ColDradD River Water Report <br /> <br />During March 200 I, storage in the major Upper Basin reservDirs decreased by 89,000 <br />acre-feet and stDrage in the LDwer Basin reservoirs decreased by 230,000 acre-feet. TDtal System <br />active storage as Dfthe end of March was 48.345 million acre-feet (mal) or 81 percent of capacity, <br />which is 4.734 maf less than Dne year agD. <br /> <br />April releases from Hoover, Davis, and Parker Dams averaged 19, I 00. 18,000 and 13,300 <br />cubic feet per second (cfs), respectively. Planned releases from those three darns for the month of <br />May 2001 are 17,800, 17,300 and 12,300 cfs, respectively. The May releases represent those needed <br />to meet downstream water requirements including those caused by reduced operation of Senator <br />Wash reservoir and dredging operations in the Araz Drain area ofthe River. <br /> <br />Colorado River Operations <br /> <br />2002 Annual Operating Plan <br /> <br />The U.S. Bureau of Reclamation (Reclamation) has announced the initiation of the process <br />for development of the 2002 Annual Operating Plan for the CDIDradD River System ReservDirs. <br />ReclamatiDn held a meeting of the Colorado River Management Work Group on May 8,2001. <br /> <br />Mexican Water Treaty - Rio Grande River <br /> <br />Last month I infDrmed the BDard that the United States and MexicD had reached agreement <br />on a repayment schedule fDr water from the Rio Grande that Mexico had withheld from delivery to <br />the United States. As of October 1997, Mexico owed water users in the United States approximately <br />1,424,000 acre-feet of water. That deficit has increased during the current 5-year cycle. <br /> <br />Included in the Board folder is a CDPY Df Minute ND. 307 entitled Partial Coverage of <br />
