.

.

.

3101

The term "21st century concept" is locally used and was
therefore incorporated in the author's style of writing.
was not deleted because it is an appropriate descriptive

It
term.

The sentence implying the dam is completed, was changed to
read on page 44, Item 3 '~aterfowl resting areas at the
reservoir site on the Arkansas River are presently limited."

The suggested two sentences pertaining to mudflats and
mosquitos in the Service's Item 7 were not used. Once the
management plans for vegetating the exposed reservoir bottom-
lands as the lake recedes each year and operation of the
reservoir's recreation and wildlife plans are implemented,
there may be relatively little exposed mudflats compared
to the reservoir's initial operating years. Further discussion
of mudflats is contained on pages 59 and 60. Vector control
is discussed in answering the Bureau of Outdoor Recreation
comments on page 61, under "Insect breeding."

(2) Borrow area source and rehabilitation: The rehabilitation
discussion on page 46, Item 5 provides more description and
statistics than the draft environmental statement. More
information became available during the environmental statement
review period. The borrow source below the dsm which would
provide an estimated 2 million cubic ysrds of material will
not be used. This replanning will save the riparian trees in
that area which will then become a: part of the Rock Canyon
public use area.

The dam will require about 13 million cubic yards of borrow
material. There are nine designated borrow source areas
representing about double the quantity of material required
for the dam, Two of these areas, named Hoops Borrow (about
62 acres) and CF&I East Parcel Borrow (about 26 acres) Areas,
are located in the western reach of the reservoir. Both will
be partially inundated at the conservation pool. level if the
contractor uses them. The left abutment borrow area, located
between the relocated Denver & Rio Grande Western railroad
tracks and the reservoir and immediately west of the dam,
is the only major borrow source north of the reservoir. Most
of the designated 265 acres are located above the North Shore
Public Use Area.

65
