.

308\1

were adopted. Since the Project will add much better
quality water to the system, no problems with the standards
are anticipated.

24, Where water and land meet, some erosion of the loosely structured
soil will occur, particularly where lake areas are exposed to
motor boat and wind wave action. Turbidity will occur at the
interface of land and water. It will diminish as daily motor
boat and wind activity are reduced, and conversely, erosion
will increase when activity increases. Suspended material will
settle to the bottom. Erosion of the shoreline is expected to
diminish as the reservoir matures because the waves will en-
counter resistant rock formations.

D. Mitigating Measures and Air and Water Quality Aspects

1. A permanent pool of initially 30,000 acre-feet covering 1.290
acres will be provided for fishing and general recreation use.
The reservoir capacity and surface acreage will diminish as
sedimentation occurs. (See Figure 3 for 50 and 100-year
capaci ties. )

.

2. Increased summer flows will enhance the aesthetics and increase
the desirability for public use of the green belt area along
the 6-mile reach of the Arkansas River between Pueblo Dam and
the City of Pueblo.

3. Management of wildlife habitat around Pueblo Reservoir will be
geared toward the mitigation of 9 miles of riparian wildlife
habitat to be lost by inundation, as well as toward enhancement
of wildlife habitat and populations, particularly waterfowl.
However, mule deer populations may decrease even with manage-
ment and additional habitat. Food and cover for waterfowl will
accommodate more ducks and geese for resting on the reservoir '.
during their annual migrations. Waterfowl resting areas at the
reservoir site on the Arkansas River are presently limited.
The establishment and development of a State managed wildlife
area will enhance wildlife resources and make available increased
opportunities for hunting and fishing.

II. During construction, burning will not be allowed. Selected
timber will be milled for lumber. Waste, slash and timber not
suitable for milling will be chipped for mulch, cut up for
firewood, or piled in the head of draws or other suitable loca-
tions for wildlife habitat. (See Figure 10 - Slash piles.)

.

411
