3G7a

.

15. With the creation of a large reservoir, a minor change in the
humidity viII occur in the surrounuing immediate area. The
extent of this change is not known. Some lov-level evaporation
and some vinter fog around the lake vicinity is also expecteu.

16. Scarring of the existing landscape will occur during construc-
tion of the dam. Borrov areas, quarries, riprap sources anu
accese roads as required will alter the landscape. These con-
struction activities viII be located in such a manner to have
the leaet adverse environmental impact.

11. There will be short-term pollution problems associated with
air, vater, and sound during construction activities.

18. Construction and development will have a short-term stimulating
impact on the local economic activity. More labor, gOOds, and
services will be needed to meet increased demands as workers
spend more money in the city of Pueblo for their domestic needs.

19. The influx of Pueblo Reservoir visitors viII generate further
demands for local goods and services.

.

20. The increased stabilized agricultural production from Arkansas
Valley lands receiving water vill have stimulative effects on
the general economic environment over vide spread areas. Pueblo
Reservoir will &lso enhance the probability of new inJustry
locating in the area, thereby further stimulating economic
growth by creating new jobs and helping alleviate out-migration
of people from rural areas as evidenced in the 1910 Census of
Population in southeastern Colorado. Technological develop-
ments viII allov rural and small municipalities to support
larger populations and maintain a high quality of life. With
establishment of new communities, some inherent pollution
problems associated with air, water and sound will develop.

21. The proximity of Pueblo West and other developments may result
in pollutants being introduced into the reservoir via storm
drainage. These pollutants may include pesticides and ferti-
lizers from lawns being established in the area. This is not
anticipated to be a significant problem due to the arid climate
and natural desert theme of the area and high water rates, dis-
couraging residential lawn establishment.

22. Local land use patterns may change as follows:

a.

Agricultural land, and range land acquired for Pueblo
Reservoir will become recreation and wildlife lands,

.

42
