<br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />3070 <br /> <br />set by the Colorado State Department of Public Health. <br />The total hardness of the water from the springs ranges <br />from 98 to 600 p.p.m. and total dissolved solids range <br />from 550 to 1,800 p.p.m. <br /> <br />The CF&I Steel Corporation located on the southern outskirts <br />of Pueblo is the largest industry in the area. Many Pueblo <br />manufacturing companies are oriented to the primary metals. <br />Some of the manufactured products include wire hangers for <br />the dry Cleaning industry, railroad switches, structural <br />building components and compressed gases. Other major <br />manufacturers in Pueblo are Perfect Circle-Piston Division <br />of Dana Corporation, Which makes aluminum pistons, and Rock <br />Wool Insulating Division of the Susquehanna Corporation. <br /> <br />Manufacturing firms west of the Pueblo Reservoir area in <br />Fremont County include the Ideal Cement Company, a major <br />producer of dry bulk cement; Pabco Gypsum Division of the <br />Fibreboard Paper Products Corporation, manufacturers of <br />gypsum wallboard; and Estes Industries of Penrose, the <br />country's largest suppliers of "scientific" toy rocket <br />engines. <br /> <br />The City of Colorado Springs, best known as a tourist center, <br />has also developed a reputation as an electronic and indus- <br />trial research center. The impetus of this reputation is <br />primarily from Hewlett Packard Corporation, a major producer <br />of oscilloscopes and related electronic equipment; Ampex <br />Corporation, major producers of recording devices; Kaman <br />Sciences Corporation; and electronic subcontractors which <br />include Maytronics, Western Electrodynamics, and the Vicon <br />Corporation. <br /> <br />Other major industries include transportation, power pro- <br />duction, and processing of agricultural commodities. The <br />Denver and Rio Grande Western Railroad manitains a sizable <br />operation in Salida as part of its cross-state rail service. <br />The Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railroad has the head- <br />quarters and shops of the superintendent of its Colorado <br /> <br />34 <br />
