The relocation did not change
the diversion characteristics.

Prior to initiation of the first major contract, relocation
of existing highway, railroad, utility and telephone facili-
ties from the reservoir site was required.

.

Approximately 16 miles of the Denver and Rio Grande Western
Railroad (hereafter referred to as D&RGW Railroad) were relo-
cated since certain facilities of the railroad were to be
inundated by Pueblo Reservoir. In the relocation process an
estimated 150 car passing track facility and an extension of
the present Hobson siding was completed. The United States
acquired rights-of-way for a normal railroad width of loa
feet, with additional width for embankment or excavation and
easements for disposal of water concentrated as a result of
construction of the relocated railroad, The United States
prepared detailed plans in accordance with standards of the
railroad's existing facilities or such standards considered
to be equivalent replacement. The grades and line length to
meet existing railroad operating requirements were principal
criteria in establishing final alignment of the relocated
line. The United States government was responsible for align-
ment and construction of the roadbed while the railroad per-
formed its own track work, All betterment included in the
relocation was paid for by the railroad.

Part of State Highway 96 was situated on certain portions of
the site required for Pueblo Dam and Reservoir. Relocation of
8.6 miles of State Highway 96 was completed to accommodate
construction and use of Pueblo Dam and Reservoir. The State
Department of Highways, Division of Highways, State of Colorado
was willing to relocate the required segment, and developed an
alignment and design based upon its current design standards.
The United States acquired land for right-of-way and granted
the Division, without warranty of title, a perpetual easement for
highway purposes having a minimum width of 150 feet with such
additional right-of-way width to contain the road in accordance
with current design standards. Contemplating future reclassi-
fication of Highway 96 into a four-lane class, the Division
paid the United States, as betterment, for th~ additional
right-of-way required for a four-lane class h1ghway.

.

8
