The estimates of runoff were based on the rocords of

gaging stations on the 1treruns of the Bo.ca Gro.nt loco.ted o.t points

well above the valley floor. From "ppearo.nces, generally, and from

observod stream flow date., it has boon concluded that 0. part of the

vmter po.ssing these gaging stations escaped to the ~tesio.n basin

which underlies the valley and roaches some distance under the

delta fan of each of the streoms entering the valle~;. It is ostimat-

cd that possibly 10,000 acre feet is annually so lost by the streams

thc.t oontribute to the drain, o.nd this less ho.s 'he"," prorated to the

strea.ms considered.
