As an example, \ the following] Table glives a set of

population projections for eight various cases prepared by the. Denver Regional

Council of Governments. This table shows that, based upon various assump-

tions for the future, the population of the Denver inetropolitan area could

range anywhere from 2.l to 4.3 million people by the year 2000. Subsequent

to the production of the forecasts as shown on [ the Table] Denver Regional

Council of Governments modified the study shown as Case 1 to reflect the

annual migration level during the period 1970 to 1980 to a level similar to that

presently occurring, called "current level." With that modification, a pre-

diction of a population by the year 2000 of 2.35 million resulted....

"This projection of a population under 2.35 million by the year 2000 con~

tains a very major assumption that growth in the Denver metropolitan area will

be controlled. Although the devices to accomplish this objective are yet to

be developed, it would appear that the objective is a meritorious one;

however, it must be kept in mind that based upon today's projections into

the future, a population of.the metropolitan area will be limited to under

2,35 million only if future growth is controlled and does not continue

at the present tevel. . . .

"The projections used in the Upper South Platte study are those adopted

by the Denver Regional Council of Governinents which projected a population

for the Denver SMSA of under 2,35 million people by the year 2000. .. .

;~, .--.-. .-"
;.,.""., ':Y."

.....

~}~~i;~;:~t::"'~
'.
'-,'
,

-lO-

.....;.--.'"

.' . .~.~-.-. - .".-.
...~-::~;>-..... ;/

ti:;,~"';5i}),~~<:,::!>:'~i?".

"'X..-:-

;',"..'.;.<::<

'_::'-~:' '. ~~ -~ -"~~~::~;?'::'~-~:~~:t~.~t~"~:
"< ....".'.-

..:~:5;:~;~:~~i~%~.'1'~~;::~;~::'

':~~~}""":;~:"/<;i;;r:1:~;lt;:c~:1~:;;:;1;:,;:f~"!t, f;~'Yt;X(~:,.c~,::'::" > ~". ~,:, ,/:~:E'
