B-9

Gasification Development in the Upper Colorado River Basin," October
1979, projected a "Baseline" and "Accelerated" synfuel development case.
Information from this study and from the "Oil Shale Advisory Committee
for Water Assessment" indicate about 7,500 acre-feet/year would be
required for a 50,000 bpd operation, including associated development
water requirements. The 13(a) projected production is a part of a
national energy projection disaggregated to the Upper Colorado River
Basin for 1985 and 2000. The time frames were adjusted and the production
scaled down to 200,000 bpd for 1990, 500,000 for 2000, and 650,000 for
2010. These estimates are also in general agreement with those furnished
by the State of Colorado.

Hydroelectric Development

A number of hydroelectric developments have been proposed in the Colorado
River Basin in Colorado and are in various stages of investigation. Most
of the consumptive use would be associated with reservoir evaporation.
It is estimated that one large development could be operational before
2000 (The State of Colorado estimates 50,000 acre-feet by 1990 and 75,000
acre-feet by 2000 depletion could be used for this purpose).

Colorado Ute - Southwest Project

Colorado-Ute Electric Association is planning two 400 MW units in Western
Colorado with projected service dates of 1987 and 1989. Construction is
planned to begin in mid-1983. The two units are estimated to consume
12,000 acre-feet of water.

Neli7 Mexico

Present

Present depletions (1980) were largely based upon Comprehensive Framework
Study (Type I) Figures with addition of Hammond Project irrigation and
other uses except those listed separately. The present figure of 106,000
acre-feet includes irrigation - 83, other - 13, and Hammond Project - 10.

San Juan-Chams Project

rne San Juan-Chama Project was authorized by Public Law 87-483. Trans-
mountain diversions began in 1971 and have averaged about 110,000 acre-feet
for the period 1975 to [980. Future authorized diversions are also
expected to average 110,000 acre-feet as indicated by the Supplemental
Project Report dated May 1957. However, recent hydrologic studies per-
formed by Southwest Region indicate that the long-term average yield may
be closer to 104,000 acre-feet.

Animas-La Plata Project (Colorado-New Mexico)

See discussion under Colorado.

Navsjo Reservoir Evaporation

Reservoir evaporation is based upon a 60-year Colorado River Storage
Project sequence study made in 1973.
