<br />~ <br />..-j <br />'" <br />(\J <br />o <br />o <br /> <br /> <br />Bureau of Reclamation <br /> <br />News Release <br /> <br />Upper Colorado ReQion <br />Grand Junction Projects Office <br />Grand Junction Colorado <br />Ronald Johnston (303) 248-0618 <br />Barry Wirth (801) 524-6477 <br />For Release August 5, 1992 <br /> <br />INTERIOR SECRETARY LUJAN ANNOUNCES $11.4 MILLION CONTRACT AWARD <br />FOR SALINITY CONTROL WORK IN COLORADO <br /> <br />Secretary of the Interior Manuel Lujan today announced the <br /> <br />award of an $11,424,155 Bureau of Reclamation contract to line <br /> <br />the East End Government Highline Canal near Grand Junction, <br /> <br />Colorado. <br /> <br />The contract, awarded to Nielsons Inc. of cortez, colorado, <br /> <br />is scheduled for completion by June 30, 1995. <br /> <br />The primary work to be done under the contract is the <br /> <br />construction of approximately 7-1/2 miles of canal lined with a <br /> <br />polyvinyl chloride (PVC) membrane. The canal lining will reduce <br /> <br />the amount of salts and minerals leached from the soil into the <br /> <br />Colorado River by water seepage. <br /> <br />The work is part of the long-term Colorado River Basin <br /> <br />Salinity Control Project designed to improve the quality of the <br /> <br />Colorado River's water in the southwestern United States and <br /> <br />Mexico. <br /> <br /># # # <br />
