<br />(,; <br /> <br />fs.\- . ~J-zco-""'" <br /> <br />!~ <br /> <br />, <br />::> <br />:> <br />11 <br />r.l <br />.. <br /> <br />House Joint Resolution HJR02S-1002 <br />Concerning the Recognition ofVolunt~er Water Donati?i:t~ To <br />Benefit Western Slope Water Users . <br /> <br />FACT SHEET. <br /> <br />The purpose of this resolution is to recognize and encourage a unique and unprecedented <br />collaboration of private, state and federal water interests! that have joined together to help <br />alleviate the effects of Colorado's severe drought on western slope water users. <br /> <br />ExxonMobil Corporation, along with nearly a dozen oth~r western slope water owners, <br />has signed an agreement with the federal Bureau of Reclamation and the Colorado River <br />Water Conservation District to provide water to families! and businesses who faced the <br />prospect of running out of water before the end of summer because of severe drought <br />conditions. <br /> <br /> <br />xxonM il rporation is donating 5,500-acre feet of water rights it owns in Ruedi <br />ese In Pitkin County. These water rights were acquired more than 20 years ago as <br />part of the Colony Oil Shale Project. Additionally, the following entities have taken <br />ExxonMobil's lead and agreed to donate unused water this year: B.w:.Qi Water and Power, <br />Town of ~alt, Town of Carbondale, Town of New Castle, Town of Ri.tk ~ <br />~V'-......~g~~.@Ill1U.lll!ll'ffit, OrchRrrl Me.R Irrigation District, <br />Grand Vallev w~;~r-Users Association~1t Company, Colorado <br />) Ri~'er Wate.r..Go'ifservation District, Middle Park Water Conservancy District. <br /> <br />What is uniaue/unprecedented about the aer~~en~ <br /> <br />According to the Colorado River Water Conservation DiJ~ct there have never been any <br />similar water donations in the past in Coloradoimd there are no similar donations <br />happening in other parts of the state. The agreement also!represents an unprecedented <br />collaboration of private, state and federal water interests. <br /> <br />Whv are these entities donatine water? <br /> <br />Many of these entities own water they will not use this year.
