The Ruedi J):un and
Reservoir are proposed as substitutes for the Aspen Dam,and Reservoir
insofar as replacement water and water for future use in western
Colorado are concerned. In addition to satisfying requirements stem-
ming from operation of the Fryingpan-Arkansas Project and from pOlicy
of the State of Colorado as expressed in the Colorado Water Conserv-
ancy District Act, Ruedi Dam and Reservoir would provide additional
storage capacity and water for use in western Colorado. .

Substitution of Ruedi Dam and Reservoir for Aspen Dam and
Reservoir will in no way affect the remainder of the Fr;#ngpan-
Arkansas Project plan. Western-slope water collection features on the
Fryingpan River (also called FL-yingpan Creek) and Hunter Creek, the
GontInent.al Divide tunnel, and all eastern-slope features and facil-
ities remaIn "u"hnuged from those set forth in House Document No. 187,
83d Congress, 1st Session, and as modified in some details in testi-
mony before the Senate and House Irrigation and Reclamation
Subcommittees of the Interior and Insular MfaLrs Committees in the
83d, 81fth and 85th Congresses. The quanti.ty of water to'be diverted
to the eastern slope likewise will not be changed. It remains at
an annual average of 69,200 acre-feet for the period 1911-1944.

.

1
