nil 18'~1

Generally, these data are available on a county or stream system

basis, and there has been no attempt to consider all of these data

in connection ~ith the statevide needs nor to project the future

supplies so that they can be compared with the needs for the next 50

years. Consequently, there is a need for an evaluation of the surface

and ground ~ater supplies for the period of study.

Comparison of the long-range needs' with the long-range su~plies

will indicate whether or not the future supplies are adequate to meet

the needs and will indicate areas of surplus or deficient supplies,

The consideration of facilities required to produce the supplies for

the future and the study of the possibilities for conveyance of ~ater

from areas of surplus to areas of need vill constitute the basic steps

in the formulation of a long-ran~e resource development plan for the

~. Other plan formulation ~ork ~ill consist of engineering designs

and estimates of costs.

In summary, Interim Report No. 1 indicated a need for an economic

base study; a need for a classification of irrigable lands; and a

need for determination of water requirements and vater supply. These

elements are necessary before the plan formulation vork can be per-

formed. The final step viII be the presentation of the results of
these studies in the form of a report.

6
