However, <br /> <br />the State will have a very important function to play in identifying <br /> <br />the problem areas and in selecting the most feasible alternative <br /> <br />solution to the problems. <br /> <br />Water Supply <br /> <br />Water supply is furnished by two general sources, ground water <br /> <br />supplies and surface water supplies. Both will need to be evaluated <br /> <br />as to quantity and quality presently available and available for the <br /> <br />future. <br /> <br />Ground water data have been developed by the Kansas Geological <br /> <br />Survey, the Kansas Water Resources Board, and the U.S. Geological <br /> <br />Survey. Beeause 6 large part of the expertise is concentrated in <br /> <br />Kansas personnel and a close working relationship exists between the <br /> <br />U.S. Geological Survey and the Water Board, the primary responsibility <br /> <br />for the evaluation of ground water supplies is assigned to the Kansas <br /> <br />Water Resources Board. <br /> <br />The work will consist of estimating the availability of the <br /> <br />ground water supply, taking into consideration the quality and <br /> <br />quantity which may be developed for various purposes. The use of <br /> <br />ground water must be correlated with surface supplies to obtain the <br /> <br />overall supply pictme in the area. Ground water somces will tend <br /> <br />to be overdeveloped, so an estimate must be made as to when to <br /> <br />13 <br />
