<01n8~S

In order for the investigation to be completed on schedule, land

classification ~ork should be completed at the same time as the

economic base study, June 30, 1969.

Water Requirements

The determination of unit water requirements is an important step

in the projection of future water requirements. The trend of increas-

ing ~ater use for municipal, domestic, and industrial, and agricultural

purposes indicates a need for an overall view of the present and

future requirements of this vital commodity.

Municipal. This item is assigned top preference in the use of

water. Shortages, either experienced or anticipated, have a direct

and restrictive impact on population, general business, and industrial

growth of cities. Several municipalities in Kansas are presently

experiencing problems caused by the lack of an adequate and depend-

able water supply. Per capita use requirements and projections for

each ten year period through 2020 are to be established in this study.

Industrial. Industrial expansion is desirable from the stand-

point of a growing and prospering economy. The number and growth of

water-using industries in Kansas are directly associated with suffi-

cient and dependable water supplies. The studies for this item ~ill

include projections for small industries and unit production require-

ments and projections for large industries.

10
