Federal and State omcials and nther dignitaries gather at dam April 29 to <br />dedicate the State of Arizona's two generators, A-3 and A-4, and celebrate <br />Reclamation's 50th Anniversary. <br /> <br />1953 Maximum generation of 6,397 million kilowatt-hours in operating year 1952-53 is <br />new record. A record of 448,081 people visit the dam and powerplant during the <br />year. <br /> <br />1955 Hoover Dam selected by the American Society of Civil Engineers as one of <br />seven modem civil engineering wonders of the United States. <br /> <br />1958 The 7 millionth visitor takes the guided tour through the dam and powerplant <br />August 7. <br /> <br />1959 Visitors number 472,639 for this year, the highest number recorded since visitor <br />services began in 1937. <br /> <br />1960 Hoover Dam celebrates its 25th anniversary May 29. <br /> <br />1961 The power installation at Hoover Dam is complete when the final generating <br />unit, N-8, goes "on-line" December I. The installed generating capacity of <br />Hoover Powerplant, including station service units, reaches 1,334,800 kilowatts. <br /> <br />1962 Visitors for the year exceed 500,000 for the first time. <br /> <br />1963 <br /> <br />The dam closes to visitors November 25, a day of mouming for President John F. <br />Kennedy. <br />
