~
L"')

.~-
, ,

eel

(,.

. excavation of the fOWlllation drainage adits is underway, and

. powerhouse renovation and protection is underway.

The turbine replacement contract upgrades the existing 36-megawatt turbine gener-
ator to handle increased head pressures resulting from raising the dam. The contract
was awarded in May 1991 and is scheduled to be completed by March 1995. Model
testing is scheduled for March 1992

Water deliveries

Water users
36 separate entities are purchasing water from CAP in 1991. Although CAP water
is currently being delivered under short-tenn interim contracts, the majority of CAP
water users also have long-tenn water service contracts. Users include:

. 19 municipal & industrial users: all in the metro Phoenix area including
the cities of Phoenix, Scottsdale, Mesa, Chandler, Glendale, and Tempe.
Eleven are long-tenn CAP water users.

. 2 Indian entities: the Ak Chin Indian Community and the Gila River Indian
Community are both water users in Pinal County in 1991 and have long-tenn
CAP water allocations.

. 15 non-Indian agricultural users: of the 15 interim users, four are in
western Maricopa County west of Phoenix and 11 are in Pinal County,
between Phoenix and Tucson. Eleven of these interim users also are long-
tenn CAP water users.

Amounts of deliveries
Through October 1991, the CAP has delivered a total of approximately 2.7 million
acre-feet of Colorado River water to CAP water users. In 1990, the CAP delivered
745,000 acre-feet of Colorado River water to CAP water users. Deliveries for 1991
will total less than 450,000 acre-feet.

Water demands in 1991 have been far below expectations. Moderate weather, poor
crop earnings in 1990, and less expensive groundwater pumping costs have con-
tributed to the slow demand for CAP water.

Projected* CAP deliveries through calendar year 1993 are:
. 1991: .6 million acre-feet,
. 1992: 1.0 million acre-feet,
. 1993: 1.3 million acre-feet.
* based on user surveys and subject to change
