Because of the good condition <br />of the Hammond Canal drop struc- <br />tures and cross drainage, the lining of <br />the canal system will be less expensive <br />than in other projects. Therefore, the . <br />cost-effectiveness should be favorable <br />for most of the canal system. A Plan <br />Formulation Working Document <br />should be available in the near future. <br /> <br />, <br /> <br />New Reclamation <br />Salinity Program <br />Coordinator named. <br /> <br />Mr. Stan Gappa was named in May <br />1989 to coordinate Reclamation's <br />salinity control program to fill the <br />vacancy created when Al Jonez retired <br />in December 1988. The Coordinator's <br />address is as before: Colorado River <br />Salinity Program Coordinator, 0-S090, <br />P.O. Box 25007, Denver, CO 80225. <br /> <br />Wetland habitat <br /> <br />Concern has been expressed over <br />the impacts to wetland and riparian <br />habitats associated with construction <br />and implementation of the salinity <br />control features. Progress is being <br />made to alleviate these concerns. <br />Reclamation purchased over SOO acres <br />of river bottom lands and sought <br />transfer of over 500 acres of adjacent <br />BLM lands to develop a wildlife <br />management area in Grand Valley. <br /> <br />Editor: Patty J.
