t'-
~
~.
('..1
N
C 13
(..

From 1972 through 1997 the CUP has stored an average of 40.717 acre-feet
annually in Strawberry Reservoir and a maximum of 154.865 acre-feet in 1995.
The purpose of this storage included (1) water supply for Spanish Fork-Nephi
Irrigation Project. formerly known as the Irrigation Drainage System of
Bonneville Unit. and (2) replacement water for the Utah Lake-Jordanelle
exchange facilitated by Jordanelle Dam and Reservoir.

MuniclDal and Industrial System

The Municipal and Industrial System provides municipal and industrial water to
Salt Lake. Wasatch and northern Utah counties. as well as supplemental
irrigation water to Wasatch and Summit Counties. Jordanelle Dam and Reservoir
has an active capacity of 311.000 acre-feet and are major features of the
Municipal and Industrial System. Water is developed by storing Provo River
flows that historically flowed into Utah Lake. Utah Lake water will be
replaced by releases of project water from Strawberry Reservoir to Utah Lake.
by project return flows to the lake. by water right acquisitions in Utah Lake.
and by flows surplus to Utah Lake rights. The average annual exchange from
Utah Lake is 96.800 acre-feet.

To provide adequate water supply for Jordanelle Reservoir 21,900 acre feet
annually was "exchanged" from Utah Lake to Jordanelle Reservoir. An
additional 74.900 acre-feet may be required if the Spanish Fork-Nephi System
is not constructed. This exchange simply meant that water which formerly
flowed to Utah Lake is now impounded on the Provo River at Jordanelle. To
facilitate this exchange the District is obligated to release water from
Strawberry Reservoir down Diamond Fork and back to Utah Lake. thereby,
replacing water now stored in Jordanelle.

Diamond Fork System

The Diamond Fork System provides the conveyance facilities for transbasin
diversion of water from the Uinta Basin to the Bonneville Basin. T~e 7.3 mile
Syar Tunnel and Sixth Water Aqueduct will deliver Bonneville Unit water and
Strawberry Valley Project water from Strawberry Reservoir to Diamond Fork
Creek, a tributary of the Spanish Fork River. Both Syar Tunnel and the Sixth
Water Aqueduct have a flow capacity of 660 cfs. The Syar Tunnel and the Sixth
Water Aqueduct are completed. Water delivered through the aqueduct will flow
down Diamond Fork Creek to the proposed Monks Hollow Reservoir. From Monks
Hollow Reservoir. water will flow to the Spanish Fork River through both the
Diamond Fork Pipeline and the natural Diamond Fork Creek channel. Monks
Hollow dam and reservoir are in the planning stages. although the Central Utah
