~
"'""
~.
,-"'';
N
_.
-'
c. 12

The Bonneville Unit of the Central Utah Project consists of the following
systems: Starvation Collection System. Strawberry Collection System.
Municipal and Industrial System. Diamond Fork System. and Spanish Fork Canyon-
Nephi Irrigation System. These systems provide water from the Bonneville and
Uinta Basins to Salt Lake. Summit. Wasatch. Juab. Duchesne and Utah Counties.

The Bureau of Reclamation and the Central Utah Water Conservancy District
maintain control over annual project operations. Therefore. the depletions
associated therewith are subject to section 7 consultation.

Starvation Collection Svstem

The Starvation Collection System develops water for irrigation and municipal
uses and was completed in 1970. Regulatory storage is provided by Starvation
Reservoir. located on the Strawberry River approximately 3.5 to 4 miles above
its confluence with the Duchesne River. The reservoir is filled by winter and
spring flows of the Strawberry and Duchesne Rivers and provides 152.330 acre-
feet of active storage. Duchesne River water is diverted by Knight Diversion
Dam and is conveyed to the reservoir through the Starvation Feeder Conduit.
The reservoir provides storage that replaces Duchesne River flows that are
diverted to the Bonneville Basin. The reservoir also provides small amounts
of water for irrigation of lands along the Duchesne River and for municipal
and industrial uses. Losses from evaporation are 6.800 acre feet. Total
depletion from the Duchesne River is 22.800 acre feet.

Strawberrv Aqueduct Collection Svstem and Enlarqed Strawberrv Reservoir

The Strawberry Collection System. completed in the late 1980's. intercepts
Rock Creek and eight other tributaries of the Duchesne River and conveys that
water through the Strawberry Aqueduct to Strawberry Reservoir. Stored water
is released to the Bonneville Basin for use along the Wasatch Front: as other
Bonnevill e Uni t features are completed these releases wi 11 increase,.
Strawberry Reservoir was enlarged from 283.000 acre-feet to 1.106.500 acre-
feet by the construction of Soldier Creek Dam on the Strawberry River. Some
of the water stored in the reservoir is released for fishery purposes in the
Strawberry River. but most water will be used for transbasin diversion to the
Bonneville Basin. Upper Stillwater Reservoir has an active capacity of about
30.000 acre-feet and serves as a regulating reservoir at the head of the
36.8-mile-long Strawberry Aqueduct. and provides temporary storage during the
high runoff period for diversion to the aqueduct and storage in Strawberry
Reservoir. Currant Creek Reservoir has a total capacity of 15.670 acre-feet.
has an active capacity of 1.120 acre-feet. and diverts Currant Creek and five
tributaries into the Strawberry Aqueduct.
