AlPine
Aqueduct

The Alpine Aqueduct, pan of
which is under construction, is
a major feature of the ,\1unicipaI
and Industrial System. The 14.
mile-long strucrure is divided
into Reaches 1,2 and 3.

Reach 1, which was completed
in 1979, consists ofa shon
tunnel and a pipeline ranging
in size from 90" to 72" in dia-
meter and con....eys water from
the existing Olmsted Flowline
about 1 mile to the vicinity of
the Utah Valley Water Purifica-
tion Plant. At that location it
is joined to the beginning of
Reach + of the Jordan Aque-
duct which will convey water
to Salt Lake Countv. A 60.inch
diameter connectio'n has been
made from Reach 1 to the Utah
Valley Plant's Pumping Station
which enables an exchange to be
made into the existing Salt Lake
Aqueduct.

Reach 2 will be constructed
southward from the Utah Valley
Water Purification Plant for
approximately 2 miles, and will
deliver treated water to Orem
City and possibly other con-
sumers. This Reach is soon to
be designed with construction
possible in 1985.

Reach 3, now under construc-
tion, will extend from the Utah
Valley Water Purification Plant
northward about 12 miles as far
as lehi, and will deliver treated
water to various water svstems
throughout Nonh Utah 'County
in need of supplemental supplies.
This Reach is scheduled for
completion by 1986, and ranges
in size from 60" at the plant to
18" at its terminus.

Jordan
Aqueduct

The partially completed 38-
mile-long Jordan Aqueduct is
also a major feature of the
Municipal and Industrial Sys.
tern. The aqueduct includes
the completed Reaches 1, 2 and
3, and Reach 4, now under con-
struction. The aqueduct has
been planned to convey and
distribute 70,000 acre-feet of
municipal and industrial water
released from Jordanelle Reser-
voir into the Provo River to
places of use in Salt lake
County and Salt Lake City.

Reach 1, completed in 1973,
extends from the Point-of-the.
.~tountain about 3 miles to the
Jordan Water Purification Plant
near Bluffdale. The 7S-inch dia-
meter pipe has been in operation
since 19i4, delivering Provo
River water to the plant for
treatment during the high sum-
mer demand season each year.

Reach 2, also completed in
19i3, extends from the plant
northward ior about 12 miles
to the vicinity of 5900 South
in Salt Lake Count\'. This i8"
diameter pipe is capable of de-
livering treated water to a large
area of the Salt Lake Valley
through the Salt Lake COUnty
Water Conservancy District.

Reach 3, which was completed
in 1983, is a continuation of
Reach 2 from 5900 South (Q
Salt Lake City at 2100 South.
This Reach is 5~ miles long
and consists of pipe ranging in
size from 66":lt the south end
to 48" at the north end.

Reach 4, now under construc.
tion, extends from the end of
Alpine Aqueduct Reach I, near
the mouth of Provo Canyon, for
a distance of 17 miles through
north Utah County to connect
with Jordan Reach 1 at the
Point-of-the.Mountain. The
pipe ranges from 72" to 66" in
diameter and will convev un-
treated water to the J ord:!n
Water Purification Plant.
