<br /> <br />The construction of Jordanelle <br />H.esen'oir will cause the loss <br />of some productive lands and <br />the disruption of farm life at <br />the site, but it will also prO\;de <br />increased water for irrigation <br />of other cropland and pasture <br />in the Heber-Francis area. <br />Water provided by the system <br />will add more than one million <br />dollars annually to gross farm <br />incomes. Although some land <br />will be removed from the <br />Wasatch Count)' tax rolls, re- <br />sulting in an estimated reduc- <br />tion of approximately $8,400 <br />annuallv in tax revenues, in+ <br />creasei recreation use ass~ciated <br />with the project and other re- <br />lated developments will offset <br />this loss. The reduction in tax <br />ren>:nues may be offset by Fed+ <br />eral funds available to Wasatch <br />COUnty and other entities. <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />The other developments antici- <br />pated include construction of <br />summer homes and a proposed <br />ski area in the vicinin. of Jordan- <br />die Re~en.oir. The present trend <br />from a rural area to a more urban <br />area could be acceler ted as a re- <br />sult of the resen.oir. <br /> <br />The project will also contribute <br />to social and economic well+ <br />being in the project area by pro+ <br />viding water supplies to meet <br />present and future needs. Al- <br />though it will not contribute to <br />population growth in Utah and <br /> <br />Salt Lake COunties, the project <br />"ill allow the J.r!'"a's popubtion <br />to sustain its qualln' of life <br />while accommodating predicted <br />grO\nh. <br /> <br />Indirect effects include the <br />followin~: (1) a Pll:.Sible shift <br /> <br />in values as a result of the ex- <br />pected increase in part-year <br />residents; (2) an acceleration of <br />recreation and housing increases <br />due to year-round recreation <br />potential associated with Jordan+ <br />die Reservoir. <br /> <br />In the two-county agricul tural <br />service area, the operation of <br />the irrigation segment of the <br />,\lunicipal and Industrial Sys- <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />tem will create about 70 fun <br />or pan-time jobs in the long <br />terms, of which about 30 <br />would be farm jobs created as <br />a result of improved irrigation <br />practices. ,'lost \vill be filled <br />by local \\"orkers. The opera- <br />tion phase of the aqueduct sys- <br />tem will generate little if anv <br />new employment in the two- <br />county metropolitan sen.ice <br />area. Operation and mainten- <br />ance of the aqueducts will be <br />absorbed by personnel as <br />needed. <br />
