<br />We are told that since August 1945, the Communist$ have averaged taking over 44 <br />square miles of territory and seven thousand newly ensl~ved sUbjects every hour. <br /> <br />i <br />Where in the past we rejoiced in the rapid spread 01 Christianity across and around <br />the world. we are appalled today when we take a look at the score. <br /> <br />And who's working for our side today as hard as the Communists are working for <br />theirs? <br /> <br />,I <br /> <br />'.' <br /> <br />One thing is certain. The totali'.arian leaders of the Communist order will be <br />thwarted only if they are opposed by men of initiative whd are as dynamic as the Soviets <br />are ruthless, as dedicated as they are fanatic, and as devoted to our concept of freedom as <br />the Communists are to the maintenance of tyranny. <br /> <br />The Soviets offer us peaceful co-existence in a Communist world in which peace is <br />war, truth is what the party leaders say it is, and honor is a pawn as expendable as the <br />masses whose interests are bartered daily. ' <br /> <br />The tragedy of Communism is not merely that it murders. But that it makes murder <br />a moral and a righteous act. ' <br /> <br />.1 <br /> <br />It is not a matter of morals today, as much as a matter of a definition of morals. I'm <br />sure the Communist believes in his heart that he is as ethical and decent in his way and <br />consistent with the morals of h is tradition as we are. ,.; perhaps more so. <br /> <br />The question for us to answer is what do we really ibelieve, Will you forego a promotion <br />in your firm. rather than cheat? Will you make an hon~st effort to follow more closely the <br />teachings of the man of Galilee? I <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />Would you be willing to give your life (whether it be physical or economic) because you <br />believe in our way of life? All that you inherit today cal]1e from the courage of men who <br />did such things... the freedom you boast about, the security you think you enjoy, the <br />religion you give lip service to on Sunday... .did not come easily. And once again it is all <br />in jeopardy and there is no one to stand up and be counjed in its favor this time but you. <br /> <br />You know, when I read historical novels, I'm inclined to associate myself with the <br />heroes. Somehow right and wrong are so easy to see when you look back on history. <br />Somehow you take it for granted that you would do the decent thing. the courageous thing, <br />that you would stand up and be counted when the Chips ,were down. You just know that <br />I y.ou wou ld be on the right side. <br /> <br />Today. here around us swirl the hideous tides of ~estiny! This era we live in is an <br />era of epic struggle.
