good and valuable consideration had become the sole owner of the

said Sangre de Cristo Grant hereinbefore described.

And your orator further shows tha t by the Act of Congress

hereinbefore referred to, by and under which your orator Was

incorporat,ed, your orator Was entitled to purchase and hold the

premises hereinbefore described, with all the rights, privileges

and eppurtenances thereunto belonging, and that by divers mesne

conveyances for good and valuable considerations your orator

became the sole mynar of the most southerly five hundred thousand

acres of said Sargre de Cristo Grant hereinbefore 'described.

except certain small tracts donated by the said Charles Beaubien

for town sites and axx similar purposes.

And your orator further shows that the Costilla River, in the

County of Taos and Territory of New 'Mexico. has its Source and

flows its entire le~th to its confluence with the Rio Grande Del

Norts. through the said lards of your orator. and that your orator

and your orator's grantors have been since the said 12th. day of

January, 1844, and your orator now is. the o~ner of both banks of

said stream from its source to its mouth; that the waters of said

stream are of great value to your orator as the means of irrigation

of the lands of your orator adjoini~ and in the vicinity of said

stream and for other purposes, and that the waters of said stream

~are insufficient, as your orator is informed and believes, for the

purpose of irr~ating all the lands of your orator to which the

same may be diverted. and that without such water for irr~ation

and domestic purposes said lands are greatly depreciated in value

and are rendered Imavailable except for graziqg stock in limited

numbers.
