D. 1843, Louis Lee and Narciso <br /> <br /> <br />Beaubien, citizens of the republic of ~ Mexico and residents of <br /> <br /> <br />the Department of New Mexico, petitioned Manuel Armijo, the .then <br /> <br /> <br />Governor 'of said Department, for a grant of land embraced within <br /> <br /> <br />the Costilla, Culebra and Trinchera riv~rs, includi~ the Rita of <br /> <br /> <br />the Indians, and the Sa~re de Cristo to its junction with the <br /> <br /> <br />Rio Grande Del Norts, which tract of land is described by metes <br /> <br /> <br />and bounds as follows: Beginning at a point on the east bank of <br /> <br /> <br />the Rio Grande Del Norte one Spanish le~ue below the confluence of <br /> <br /> <br />the Costilla Riverj thence northerly alo~ the east bank of said <br /> <br /> <br />river to a point one Spanish le~ue above the confluence of the <br /> <br /> <br />Trinchera River; thence northeast to the swrunit of the mountains <br /> <br />lvhich divide the waters flowing to the east and to the west; thence <br /> <br /> <br />southerly along the summit of said mountains to a point opposite <br /> <br /> <br />the place of beginniqg: thence west to the place of beginni~; <br /> <br /> <br />situate in the County of Taos and Department of New Mexico and <br /> <br /> <br />mown and called the Sa'Ere de Cristo Grant.. <br /> <br /> <br />Apd your orator further shows that on or about~ to wit, the <br /> <br />30th. day of December, A. D. 1843, the said Governor granted said <br /> <br /> <br />petition, and that thereafter and in accordance with the directions <br /> <br />of the said Governor the said petitioners were on or about~ to wit, <br /> <br />the 12th. day of January, A. D. 1844, placed in juridioal possess- <br /> <br /> <br />ion of said above described premises, and that all of the <br /> <br /> <br />proceedi~s were duly had and taken in accordance with the laYffl~ <br /> <br /> <br />us~es and customs of the Republic of Mexico then in force, by <br /> <br /> <br />whiCh said proceedings the said Louis Lee and Narciso Beaubien <br /> <br /> <br />became vested with all the property rights of every kind and <br />
