to wit, the 30th. day of May, A. D. 1848, and mich became opera-

t ive by the necessary exchanges between the t'M:I governments on or

about the 30th. day of July, A. D. 1848, the Department of New

Mexico, inaludi~ the above described'tract of land, together \nth

all the rights of the said Republic of Mexico, were ceded to the

Gove~~1t of the United States. and by the provisions of said

treaty, and more especially Article VIII thereof, the Government

of the United States qgreed to reccgnize and protect all private

rights and titles (includiljg the rights and titles of the grantors

of your orator) in existence at the date of the .cedirg of said

Territory or Department of New Mexico.

And your ora tor further shows that pursuant to 'the provisions

of said treaty and by Act of COI\gress entitled tAn Act to confirm

certain private land claims in the Terri tory of New Mexico..

approved June 21st. A. D. 1860, the Government of the United States

confirmed the said tract hereinbefore described to Charles Beaubien

the grantor of your orator. And your orator further shows that by

said act of congress the Government of the United States conveyed

all its property riBhts of every kind and nature. in and to said

tract of land and every part and parcel thereof to the said

Charles Beaubien, and that -prior to said act of Congress confirmirg

the title of said tract of land to Charles Beaubien the said Char-

les Beaubien by inheritance and by divers mesne conveyances for

good and valuable consideration had become the sola owner of the

said Sangre de Cristo Grant hereinbefore described.

And your orator further shows that by the act of Congress
