<br />The Narrows is located on tf1e
<br />South Platte River in northeastern
<br />Colorado, Plans call for
<br />construction of a dam 4.2
<br />miles long and 147 feet high
<br />containing two separate
<br />spillways to handle anticipated
<br />floods.
<br />With 15,000 surface acres at
<br />the top of the joint.use pool, the
<br />Narrows Reservoir will be the
<br />largest reservoir in Colorado and
<br />will store 498,000 acre-feet of
<br />water (an acre-foot consists of
<br />

<br />will accumulate from water that
<br />previouslv has been flowing
<br />unused at an average of 370,000
<br />acre-feet per year, During 1970
<br />slone, nearly 800,000 acre-feet
<br />of water were lost to Colorado
