The
physical, chemical and biological conditions shall be
maintained for the benefit of present and future generations
of residents and visitors to e~ Northwestern Colorado.
Polluted waters of the Region shall be restored as soon as
is financially and technically feasible.

Policy Obiectives

o To assist local governments and federal and state
agencies controlling land use activities in the
Region in implementing federal and state water
quality goals.

o

To improve public
conditions in the
those conditions
activities.

water quality
extent to which
by land use

awareness of
Region and the
are affected

o To meet,--aE-a--ffi~H~ffiaffi, the adopted water quality
standards for the state of Colorado and the
applicable federal and state requirements for
antidegradation of water quality.

Water Quality Assessment

Most of the streams in Region XII are very high quality and
all desired uses are supported. This general assessment is
supported by reconnaissance evaluation of Surface Water
Quality in Eagle, Grand, Jackson, Pitkin, Routt and Summit
Counties, Colorado (Plan Appendix B) prepared in 1979 by
USGS for NWCCOG and by the assessment of water quality of
each hydrologic basin in Chapter IV of Volume II. The
emphasis of water quality planning in our area is largely
directed toward preserving this existing high quality.
There are some areas, however, where reclamation is needed--
particularly with regard to historic mining areas and acid
mine drainage.

.

\ d:-.: --.,.

".' ~."---,, --.'
