<br />For protecting the upper feeder pipe lines against accidental rise
<br />of water pressure, there have been provided four overflow spillways
<br />with wasteways discharging into Puddingstone flood control chan-
<br />nel, San Gabriel River, Monrovia Canyon, and Arroyo Seco flood
<br />control channel. In case of emergency the flow can be turned out of
<br />the feeder at these spillways by means of gates except at .Monrovia
<br />Canyon, where the spillway is designed to come into action only in
<br />the event of pressure rise due to accidental obstruction of a pipe
<br />line or tunnel between that point and Arroyo Seco.
<br />Water released from the upper feeder into the Orange County
<br />feeder is controlled by means of manually operated throttling
<br />valves at the turnout structure. The point of diversion from the
<br />upper feeder is at the junction with the softening plant influent
<br />
