Most of the <br />programs were released in the evening at a time when they couid <br />be heard by a large number of listeners. In response to requests <br />from such listeners, the District sent many hundreds of pamphlets <br />describing the aqueduct to all parts of the nation. Having both <br />educational and historical interest in this series of radio programs <br />were those in connection with the holing through of the last two <br />headings in San Jacinto tunnel, November 19, 1938, the beginning <br />of operation of the Intake pumping plant on January 7, 1!)3!), the <br />compietion of the heavy construction of ihe main aqueduct, October <br />14, 1939, and the regular delivery of Colorado River water and <br />its storage in Lake Mathews on November 19, 1939. <br /> <br />~ <br />
