--.. --

.

-.~

lZC;-j

- --. - -- ,--Chnpter 'I-h--Ws.ter-resouroes', -

The storage and regulation of Arkansas River water by means of
the potential Pueblo Reservoir would make available a considerable'
amount of ~nter now lost to floods ~nd winter flows, for municip~l
us,es and for supplemental swnmer irrigation water. However, control
of Arl<ansas -,River water alone would not be sufficient to mnteri!llly
alleviate the present needs of the hastern Slope. Therefore, un-
allocated ~estern Slope v~ter must be diverted from the upper Ro"-r-
ing F'ord watershed. Only water over and above that needed for antic-
pated ultimate development of the Western Slope watershed is consid-
ered availQble flow for transbasin diversion. Water to be exported
from the Roaring F?rk watershed would bo diverted directly to the
Eastern Slope through the potential Fryingpan River diversion.

The bar graph, exhibit 2, shows the period of available strenm-
flow records for the area on both Slopes included in the basic pl~n
of development.

All pertinent data, description of gaging stations, summary of
methods and oalculutions used, and maps of the various areas uro pre-
sented herein.

AVAILABLE SUPPLY

Western Slopo

-The-principal source of water ,for ,the Initial Development would
bo the Fryingpun River and its tributaries in the Roaring Fork Basin
on the Western SloPQ. Water would be diverted from Fryingpnn River
to Lake l'ork of the Arkunsas Ri'fer to flow through the Arkansas Valley
Power System and eventually be used as supplemental water for presently
irrig~ted lands above and below Pueblo Reservoir and if need be on the
tributaries by exchange.

Twin Lakes (Independence Pass) Diversion

In the past, the Twin Lakes Res~rvoir and Canal Comp~ny has not
diverted its decreed cQpncity nt all,~imes due to in~dequnte storage
in the Arkansas River Basin. Tablel shows the historical diversions,
ultimate diversions, and the increased diversions of the Twin Lakes
(Independence Pass) Diversion Tunnel. Diversions began in Hay 1935.
-- -Diversions in-tlie~nistoriC!lrCOlumn--prior 100--1936 were o15taine(l-oy

-3
