Funding for this annual level of field <br />activities is requested for coming fiscal year by this agency. <br /> <br />The coal miners~pf the state are offered the chance of taking certifi- <br />cation examin~ti6ns to become coal mine officials. The number of exams <br />is dictated by"the demand for certified officials by industry. The <br />average number of exams is between three and six per year. <br /> <br />This agency issued 68 Coal Mine Licenses, 359 Explosives Permits, <br />164 Underground Diesel Permits, Inspection Fees are collected <br />($70,429.80 from 7-1-77 to 6-30-78), variances are granted or denied. <br />Records of agency activities are-maintained, requests for miscellaneous <br />information and mineral specimens. (1,272 in 1977) are answered and an <br />annual report, for both metal and coal, is published and distributed <br />to interested persons. <br /> <br />A federal grant for health and safety education and training is admin- <br />istered by the Division of Hines. <br /> <br />IV.
